Prof. Harald Giessen and Prof. Jörg Wrachtrup from the Department of Physics and Prof. Michael Saliba from the Department of Electrical Engineering have been named "Highly Cited Researchers 2021" by Clarivate Analytics, placing them among the top 1% of the world's most influential researchers in the fields of physics, chemistry and materials science. Clarivate Analytics examines the citations by peers, which is considered an important indicator for the scientific impact of a paper and therefore of the influence of the authors in their respective fields. Worldwide, this award is given to around 6600 researchers across all disciplines; in Germany, the number is only 331.
Quantum researcher Jörg Wrachtrup is receiving this award for the fifth time in a row, for nano-optics researcher Harald Giessen it is the fourth time, and for optoelectronics scientist Michael Saliba, who conducts research in the field of high-efficiency perovskite solar cells, it is the fourth time in a row. Wrachtrup receives the award in the field of physics, Saliba in the field of chemistry, and Giessen in the particularly interdisciplinary discipline of "cross-field", since his research is located between physics and materials science.
